Salt Spring Island, Canada

Leaving 'Merica

Driving with my father is always an adventure. The morning we flew to Vancouver was no exception. As you’ll see in the video, we drove around in circles for a while until we finally found our way to the check in counter. As always, the video is narrated by everyone’s favorite (fake) Aussie

Arriving to the Vineyard

Two plane rides later, we arrived on Salt Spring Island! My dad’s girlfriend owns a winery on the island which is why this was my first stop on my solo traveling adventure. For the next month, I will be working in the tasting room, earning a little extra money before I head out to my next adventure. This is a view from our house at the top of the hill.

The Vineyard

Garry Oaks is an estate winery, which means, 100% of our wine is produced with grapes we grow on the estate. We don’t import any grapes, which is a rarity in the wine world. We grow cold climate grapes–pinot noir, pinot gris, and zweigelt. Garry Oaks is also a sustainable winery.

Ruckle Park

I can’t quite put my finger on it but there’s something about this island that feels magical. When I hiked through Ruckle Park, I was seized with this incredible energy. My skin was alive, an extreme calm surrounded me, and I felt like I was walking on clouds! I’ve never felt anything like it before. Maybe you’ll get a bit of the magic when you look through the photos.
